FROM PASHAS TO POKEMON BY MAARIA SAYED
🍄About book:-
At 25, Aisha has seen more than many people do in a lifetime and has understood one thing: no matter who you are and where you are from, there are things that you can study and others that you can actually learn from and grow.
Lively tales from family history and everyday life in Mohammad Ali Road colony in Mumbai form the background of Aisha’s internal journey. Childhood memories mingle with her experiences while studying in London, and are woven into a sharp commentary on the transformations in India over 20 years as she ponders her place in this ever-changing world.
Narrated with a distinct humour and a throbbing heart, rooted in Urdu sensibility, the debut novel of Maaria Sayed is the story of a family caught in the shift to the new millennium, a touching story of love and compromised values, of West and East, of childhood and adulthood
🍄My thoughts:-
FROM PASHAS TO POKEMON BY MAARIA SAYED is a roller coaster of the realistic persistence of life in Mumbai that captures the minute mobility of the physical, emotional entities through an introspective prospect. It is a fantastic book that immediately entraps the readers with its witty passages, lucid flow, relatable storyline and leaves an everlasting impression.
We meet millions of people everyday, but sometimes we overlook, sometimes overtake, sometimes overpass, even sometimes overlap, intentionally or unintentionally with their journeys. Here Sayed has brought out the most captivating interactions of her life, her encounters with the millions of people, the lessons she learned from them back in her early childhood days at Md Ali Road Colony and further in her adulthood in the streets of London.
Ultimately it's a bridge between east and west, happiness and grief, darkness and illumination, reflected with the charm of Humour and affection.
Sayed has keenly observed the obsession, oppression, laughter, lamentation of everyday lives; her quill has bled the entire entity of the society exquisitely.
The realistic plot is very much relatable. The characters have performed valiantly in their individual scenario. The narration has provided an explicit dimension to the story.
The author's writing style is engaging and immersive, painting vivid pictures of the Md Ali Road Colony and its inhabitants. The pacing is well-balanced, allowing the story to unfold at a steady pace while building suspense and tension. The dialogue is sharp and realistic, adding an extra layer of authenticity to the narratives. The book has become a diaphanous speculum of the world. A sense of inquisition still remains to be imagined by the readers after finish reading.
Overall an electrifying debut.
